You Should buy a enclosure that support the type of your hard drive.IDE/PATA are older types and the SATA have faster transfer rates.if you have more than one SATA hard drives,find some external raid enclosure for faster speed and safety.

You should check if you need a fans for you enclosures.usually the enclosures have built-in fans to make sure that the hard drives works nice and keep cold.but on the other hand,it could bring your some more noise.so if you didn’t like the extra noise,don’t get a enclosure with a fan

What material to use.there are some kinds of materials for enclosures,Plastic,aluminum and metal.be aware those enclosures made of plastic,to keep your hard drive cook,aluminum or metal enclosures can really works better than the plastics.

The power.Get a enclosures that use a AC adapter for power.USE can used in the connections,but it’s really dangerous and unstable for those power the drive only with USB port.
